First thing you should realize about getting a job, is that all businesses are first a place of business. Second, a place of employment. Reason for this is because without customers, there is no place of business, without a place of business, there is no place of employment.
All too often these days, employee prospects come in and think that the interview is the equivalent of being hired. WRONG!!!!!!!
It is merely another step in the hiring process, the days of walking in and being hired on the spot are long gone. Reason for that is because for the past 25 years, employees have been taking for granted the surplus of jobs, and the ability to talk your way into a job that is a couple of levels above them. There is absolutely no problem with talking your way in, the problem comes from what you do when you get in. This is where the first rule kicks in, TALK YOUR WAY IN, AND THEN "WALK THE TALK".
Never let your guard down, always know the job, and do it way past what is required. Plus, help your company out, even if you do not own stock in the company, you might as well, especially since you are drawing your paycheck from the company.
What happened in the past 25 years, well 2 generations criss crossed and left employers with no other choice but to change the way that they conduct business. More rules, and more paperwork, and more separations, leading to more hiring. This terrible circle created the illusion that jobs were plentiful. Nope, just the businesses looking for more reliable ways to get the job done. Then, TECHNOLOGY, technology makes it so that we can screen without seeing you, hearing you, we are looking at your spelling, how you present yourself in writing, did you do the internet no-no of writing in all lower case-on an online job application, did you follow the instructions (after all - every job will have instructions, if you cannot follow them online before you get the job, you are less likely to follow them once you have the job). Employers are out in front, because of TECHNOLOGY.
So all of you that are unemployed, listen, PAY ATTENTION TO RULE NUMBER ONE.
Put your best foot forward to get the job, but most importantly, when you get the job, DO IT!!!!!!!
